I want to deploy my application using dbeng for one user. I searched for a license but all I could find is the SQLA workgroup 5 users. Do you think I need a license to deploy my application using the dbeng.exe ?

Nassib, Yes, you need a license to deploy SQL Anywhere.

What you need to buy depends on a couple of things:

  • If you have used the SQL Anywhere Developer Edition to create your application, then you need to buy the 5-user Workgroup Edition to properly license the production use of SQL Anywhere.
  • If you have already purchased a Workgroup Edition, and the deployed user is within your own company, then you can simply have that user be one of the 5 users included in the license.
  • If the user is a customer of yours, then a Workgroup Edition must be purchased for that use.

Alternatively, if this is your business, and you are expecting to do this many more times in the future, you could also investigate our OEM program, which allows you to optimize the exact components you distribute, as well as optimizing the price.
