I guess I'm not the only one who - when it comes to evaluate an answer - takes the person into account who has answered the question.

And obviously an answer by the folks who own the code is usually much more reliable than by "ordinary users". Usually:)

Therefore it would be helpful when these admired folks would give a hint to their employer (and possibly to their working field), just as Mark, Glenn, Karim, Graeme and many others already have done.

After some good answers or profound comments, I think they're usually well-known here - but for the first answers one sometimes has to guess if they are "insiders" or not.

NOTE: I do consider privacy a high value. So feel free to ignore my suggestion if it sounds inappropriate:)

@Graeme: Am I wrong w.r.t. the subsidiary status? - Mergers are complicated:(

I don't think the iAnywhere subsidiary exists anymore. I'm pretty sure we all work directly for Sybase once again.

...Another revelation:)

Quiz: Does the SQL Anywhere product change its name more frequently than the company behind?

I prefer to think of us as "iAnywhere, a Sybase, an SAP Company Company" ;-)

@Graeme: The "iAnywhere, A Sybase Company" subsidiary does still exist, and is the primary sales channel for SQL Anywhere. SQL Anywhere development is now part of "Sybase, an SAP Company" though. Phil has it just about right ;-)

PS. I work for "the company".

Now, that all being said, I certainly do understand one might hesitate to name one's employer:)

Dear Sybase folks, I have the vague impression that many more of you are sharing your valuable and welcome contributions here - feel free to reveal your background to us:)

Thanks for your suggestion Volker. We will be asking the Sybase employees that participate on this forum to identify themselves in their profile as an employee. Since it is "vacation season" in Canada it may take a few weeks for everyone in Waterloo to get around to changing their profile.
