Hello,

I'm having trouble with the silent installation of the Sybase 9 on 64bit system process.

For setup.iss got one for 32 and one for 64bit. Simply does not work in 64bit installation.

Thank you!

If you are running with a version of 9.0.x older than 9.0.2#3091 you could be experiencing a known issue (Engineering fix# 380746). This comes up when there is no .Net Framework involved. It may also occur if a newer one (say 4, 4.5 or higher) is the only one available. Making sure you have a 2.0-compatable .Net Framework installed would address this if this is your issue. (any 2.0, 3, or 3.5 .Net Framework should do)

Before going further, it should be noted that Version 9 has been past engineering support for over 4 years now http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=1061840&contentOnly=true and if you cannot resolve this you may need to migrate to a current release.

As to the silent install failing, it is unlikely a problem with this being 'silent'; ie. not an issue with your .iss response file.

Other than being silent may be hiding the true nature of the failure, you are still just running the same installer code as a non-silent install would. You should try a normal installation to see where things are going wrong and diagnose it that way.

The first issue most installations fail with are due to not running with sufficient priviledges. Do make sure you have local administrator rights.

Also, since you are likely trying to do this on a newer (and likely an untested) Windows OS, you may need to also disable UAC {temporarily}.

At a minimum you will likely need to run setup.exe as a older OS binary (say, Windows XP since that was a supported and current OS when 9.0.2 was still supported) and as an administrator.

Best of luck

I also remember a few problems with silent installs (in my case, with v8.0.1), when the response file would not answer the questions a non-silent install would raise - just doing a normal install would then help to find which additional question would be raised...
