Microsoft has provided a list of features Removed or Deprecated in Windows Server 2012. Link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831568 Included in this list is: ODBC support for 16- and 32-bit applications and drivers is deprecated. Use 64-bit versions instead. Do we know if the same restriction will apply to the Windows 8 desktop platform? What impact will this have on support for 32 bit client applications using ODBC? asked 01 Jun '12, 20:04 Kyle Danielson |
ASA 9 has long been out of engineering support so Sybase (now SAP) will not be testing nor providing engineering support for ASA 9 on Windows 8 or Windows 2012. SA 11 is still supported by engineering and AFAIK engineering has been testing it (and SA 12) on an early version of Windows 8... and I have not heard of any issues. I do not know if MS deprecation of 32bit ODBC on Win64 will have any effect.... but as long as the the support in Windows is still there and 32bit apps still work on Win64 SA will likely continue to work. (but note this is a forward looking statement and I do not know what will happen in the future!) answered 02 Jun '12, 03:46 Mark Culp |
Ever since the listing of Windows-on-Windows x64 (WoW64) as an "Optional" feature in the Server Core components of Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2, Microsoft has been encouraging of its Server versions to host 64-bit server applications:
Microsoft is really just continuing this trend with their newer operating systems.
I don't think we can provide any forward-looking statements about what Microsoft has planned for its desktop versions and WoW64...
In a similar manner of looking to the future of 64-bit server applications, in version 12.0.1 and up we have removed MobiLink 32-bit Server support on 64-bit Microsoft Windows operating systems, expecting that users should always run the 64-bit MobiLink server on these OSes.
