IQ Role vs User Extended-Role

I'm having a hard time understanding the concept behind User-Extended role in IQ 16, to me, this is a lazy way of creating a role(real one) and makes it difficult to differentiate between, user, user-extended-role and role.

Why, when I create a role using create role, I endup with a user-extended role instead of a "real" role?

More importantly, how can I list the users that are also extended-roles?

Well, that's not fully true, see the FAQ - to cite:

SAP IQ is also a separate product, though much of IQ's execution engine is based on SQL Anywhere.
