Hi Group,

We are currently migrating from Sybase 11 to SAP 17 and moving from 2x CPU licenses to Core licensing via OEM Anywhere. I understand from reading previous posts that the 1x CPU is equivalent to 4x Cores in respect to the license model. Therefore our current server will move to 8 cores. As we are using the OEM version, we can extend the number of cores beyond 8 if required.

My question is related to performance. My current example, a server with 2 CPU's, 8 cores each totally 16 cores. My understanding and testing indicates that Sybase 11 can access and utilize all 16 cores. Therefore installing an 8 core v17 license could degrade the over performance of the solution and may be perceived as a downgrade by the client?

In the above configuration, should I be purchasing the same number of core licenses as the server (16) to remain equivalent to v11 or is there a performance increase offered by v17 which offsets the halving of processing power?

Thanks in advance

Roger
