Yes, I'm aware that issues related to the new v16 beta shoud be posted to the beta forum - however, I still can't log in there.

I tried to log in the beta forum via my OpenID (the same I use for this forum), but it does not seem to accept it:
After entering the URL and clicking on "Login", the browser seems to access the OpenID URL, but then the login page is reloaded, and my entries are gone. There's no error message or anything else that would give a clue to why this is failing.

It doesn't matter whether I log in to my OpenID provider beforehand or when I'm asked to do so.

In contrast, when I log out from this forum and then log in again, I have to authenticate via the OpenID provider to log in again. This does work as expected. Therefore I don't think it has to do with any particular browser settings.

The problem happens on several machines I have tested with.

Background: I'm using a Verisign PIP OpenID. From OpenID account log, I can see that the site is contacted from the beta login page. Currently I'm wondering if the problem is due to the fact that the main and the beta forum use the same "homepage" URL (http://sqlanywhere-forum.sap.com/), and possibly the OpenID process has a problem to distinguish two requests with the same URL.

The login credentials you use for this forum will not work on the Nagano beta forum. When you signed up for the Nagano beta, you should have been given (or you will be given, not sure of the time frame) a different username / password to use on the beta forum.

You should be able to create a new account on the beta forum using the "Create account" link on the login page. Once that's done, you can associate any OpenID / MySybase ID with it by going to your user page, then clicking on User tools / authentication settings.

Hm, I still don't understand the login requirements.

That's what the beta page is telling:

To post questions in the forum, you will need to log in using one of the following two methods:

  • Create a new user name and password
  • Validate an existing email address using OpenID

Please note that you will be able to see all questions and answers in the forum, even if you do not log in.

Well, if I don't log in, I can't access the beta forum.

I have not been given particular credentials (in contrast to previous beta tests, where the NNTP forum had a particular password IIRC), and José's mail does not include any hint to that topic.

And on the beta forum login page, login seems to be possible via three different methods, and for me, neither the OpenID nor the login via my MySybase account seem to succeed. - I have not tried to create new credentials, as using existing credentials should work, if my understanding of the cited information is correct.

Apparently, somehow I'm missing the point...

SAP Sybase SQL Anywhere Nagano Beta Program Guide (PDF) states the same:

FEEDBACK A primary purpose of this Beta release is for SAP Sybase SQL Anywhere engineering to receive your feedback on the software. All comments are welcome. You can send your feedback via the SAP Sybase SQL Anywhere Nagano Beta forum: ***. To post questions in the forum, you will need to log in using one of the following two methods: 1. Create a new user name and password 2. Validate an existing email address using OpenID Please note that you will be able to see all questions and answers in the forum, even if you do not log in.

Neither option works for me.

My apologies. This page was copied from the main forum and contains two errors. The line "Please note that you will be able to see all questions and answers in the forum, even if you do not log in" is incorrect. In order to see any questions or answers you must first log in. And the only way to log in is using the user ID / password given to you when you register for the beta program. I'll try and find out today when that will be happening.

(Sigh) I had it all wrong. You can create your own accounts, and you can (now) see questions and answers without logging in first. I've updated my answer above.

Well, I had already registered for the beta program (cf. the comments on this FAQ - you know, "speed of light":) ), and received José's mail (subject: "SAP Sybase SQL Anywhere Nagano Beta website and software now available") with the details on Friday. And as stated, there's no hint for further registration/credentials in his mail.

So I'm wondering what else is to do - and why...

Nah, that looks like a very old rule - only 6 characters, just digits and letters? That won't hurt me:)

I think "dual-part" passwords are state of the art...

OK, now it's all clear and working as specified:

I created a new account and added my OpenID provider as external authentication provider. And read access without being logged in does work too.

...for me, it let me in after a while ...don't know which of the several things I tried earlier did the trick :)

I guess you entered a sufficient number of appropriate Dilberts to qualify as external authentication:)
