(see update at bottom)

Why does the SQL Anywhere monitor show "Monitoring Stopped" for one remote database for almost an hour after the monitor is started, and then suddenly start monitoring?

The following SQL Anywhere Monitor 12.0.1.3810 screenshot shows the following for the "Inventory XP" database:

Status = "Monitoring Stopped" for Inventory XP, even though (a) no action was ever taken to stop monitoring, and (b) Test Connection works OK.

Server Info - Last Checked Time = 2012/11/30 8:56 is approximately the current time, even though the status has been "Monitoring Stopped" for quite a while.

Key Performance Metrics - Queries Processed = 5.17 queries/second even though no other metrics show any activity; in particular, CPU Usage = 0% when in fact it is 50%, and the Connections widget shows nothing even though there are 14 connections.

Also...

Tools - Administration - Exception Reports is empty.

Tools - Administration - Message Log (see below) shows that the service was started at about 8:20 AM, almost an hour before the above screen shot was taken:

Then, all of a sudden, at about 9:09 AM, monitoring for Inventory XP started!

(more information after screenshot...) alt text

Curiously, the Message Log shows no activity for all of November 29; on that day (yesterday), the SQL Anywhere Monitor GUI was not launched, but as far as I know the SQL Anywhere Monitor service was running all day.

FWIW Inventory XP is running 24 by 7 on a different computer, although it was restarted on November 29 (which is not shown in the Message Log). The SQL Anywhere Monitor is run on a laptop which is shut down and restarted one or more times each day.

Update: After a power failure and restart of all components, the Inventory XP resource showed up as "Monitoring Stopped".

Interestingly, when the "Inventory XP - Monitoring Stopped" line was selected, the "Stop" button was enabled at the bottom of the frame... not "Start", but "Stop"...

So I pressed "Stop", and the button changed to "Start", and when I pressed it nothing happened right away... but on the next refresh cycle monitoring did start for that resource.

So... this appears to be reproducible at my end, so feel free to ask for more information :)
